Burley Rails Cottage - Secluded Accommodation in The Heart of The New Forest

Great spotted woodpeckers say it's Spring!

Great Spotted Woodpeckers are heralding the arrival of Spring.  They can be heard every morning as they announce their presence to all and sundry by drumming on the trees around the cabin.

New Forest Hounds at Burley Rails

The New Forest Fox Hounds will be meeting at Burley Rails Cottage on 20th February 2010 for their final meet of the season.

Why not come and support them and join us in a glass of warming mulled wine and a slice of tasty fuit cake.

New Forest Pony Drifts

Every year the New Forest Commoners, who are the owners of the wild ponies, round up their animals in order to worm them and to cut their tails in a certain way to denote which Agister they are attached to.  At the same time those without a brand are hot branded before they are released back onto the open Forest.  Some ponies will be fitted with reflective collars in an attempt to minimise road traffic accidents.  These round-ups occur about forty times a year and are known locally as DRIFTS.  These drifts are a spectacular and unique sight but visitors are asked to view from afar thus ensuring that they don't create a safety issue for the busy Commoners.

New Forest and Hampshire County Show

The New Forest and Hampshire County Show will be held on 27th, 28th, & 29th July.  If you are intending to enter horses or ponies at the show, why not book Wilfs cabin and stables.  We are only twenty minutes from the show ground!
